Electrical wires take up very small area but do require to be installed to your local‐electrical‐code. Commonly they require to be within a shielded cable if they would run exposed inside the cabinetry. If the island is on elevated legs, the electrical cables could also run out of sight on the inside corner of a leg or otherwise through a hole drilled well thru the center of the leg.
If you would own track or pendant lights appropriate over the island, think putting the switch for these lights in a suitable area somewhere on the island just beneath the counter top.
Kitchen vent hoods for stove tops required to be vented to the outside. Preferably, the duct work run must be as small with as few curves as possible Any additional distance or curves in the duct work reduces the usefulness of the fan. The duct work could run through the ceiling straight up also through the roof if the top of the roof is close.
Instead, the duct work could run into the ceiling above the vent as well as then bend to head for the nearest outside wall. For a house remodel, the difficulty of re‐running vent ducts for a kitchen island plan could sometimes eliminate the possibility of an island stove top. While you are unsure about this, you could check with an architect or structural engineer to find out if you could run the duct work through your existing structure.
Previous to finishing your kitchen island plan, do a quick shopping search online or locally for all electrical, appliances, plumbing also hardware items for your plan. See for the available dimensions with item prices. If your kitchen island plan includes an island stove top, you would find that stand‐alone fan hoods are significantly much expensive than the standard wall mount kitchen vent hoods.
If the floor is concrete or you could´t get under it, an alternative to running the cable through the attic is to construct a raised subfloor also run the cable beneath that.
The island receptacle should be a ground fault interrupting (GFI) outlet – not a regular one.
